Privacy Policy

TyphoonHub (“TyphoonHub”, “we”, “us”) runs an independent film streaming platform at typhoonhub.ca and in the TyphoonHub mobile app. We are based in British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the website and the app.

Information we collect

Your account

• Email sign-up: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see them.
• Sign in with Google: if you choose it, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We do not get your Google password or access to your Google account, Gmail, contacts or files.

What you watch and do

• Films you start watching, how long you watch, and where you stopped (so you can resume and so filmmakers can see how their films perform).
• Likes, ratings, your watch list and the filmmakers you follow.
• The IP address of the device when a film starts playing, stored with that view record. We use it to count views reliably and to prevent abuse.
• Your approximate country, worked out from your connection, to show prices in your currency. We do not store it.

Payments

Rentals, memberships, tokens and other purchases are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your card or payment details directly; we never receive or store full card numbers. We keep a record of what you bought and when.

Filmmakers and members

• If you submit a film: your contact details, the film and its information, and the payout details needed to pay your revenue share (payouts are handled through Stripe).
• If you join the Members’ Map: the country and city you choose, your roles, and any gear listings you post. These are shown to other members.
• If you buy a verification badge, the information that verification requires.

Games

For online board games we store the game room, the moves, and the display name you enter. Guests are identified by a random ID kept in their browser.

Messages and email

If you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us, we keep your email address and what you sent us.

How we use it

• To run your account, play films, remember your progress and process purchases.
• To pay filmmakers their share and show them how their films are doing.
• To send emails you need (sign-in, receipts, account and film notices) and, if you subscribed, our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
• To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and fix problems.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that run parts of TyphoonHub for us:

• Supabase — database and account sign-in.
• Vercel — website hosting.
• Bunny.net — video and image delivery.
• Stripe — payments, payouts and verification.
• Resend — sending email.
• Google — Sign in with Google and, where enabled, Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics.

Filmmakers see totals for their own films (such as views, watch time, likes and ratings), not which individual viewer watched. Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies and device storage

The website uses browser storage to keep you signed in and remember settings, and analytics cookies where Google Analytics is enabled. The app stores your sign-in session in your device’s secure storage.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. Viewing and payment records are kept as long as needed to pay filmmakers, meet tax and accounting rules, and resolve disputes. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information unless we must keep it by law.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or to close your account, by emailing typhoonhubca@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you signed in with Google, you can also remove TyphoonHub’s access at any time from your Google Account’s security settings.

Children

TyphoonHub is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use encrypted connections, access controls and reputable providers to protect your information. No online service can be perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you if a breach affects you as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and tell you by email or on the site if the change is significant.
